In November Havelock Community Development Adviser - Hans Neilson attended the Tonic Conference in Wellington. With about 100 people from all over the world in attendance, the Tonic conference, now in its 7th year, is known as one of New Zealand’s most vibrant, best value events for the community sector. The conference covered all the aspects of running a non-profit organisation including leadership, fundraising, marketing, volunteer issues and everything in-between. There was also a good dose of ideas, inspiration, networking and advice all of which Hans is looking forward to bringing back to Havelock.
The Key Lessons I took away from Tonic Conference:
The power of collaboration and particularly the “South Alive” project.
Creative tools for community conversations and Café Conversations
The 5 languages of appreciation and why they are essential to good communication. They are: Words of affirmation, Quality Time, Acts of Service, Tangible Gifts, (Touch)
Getting good ideas through to the Board
