Community Planting Day
Havelock Community Association were thrilled at the turn out for our Community Planting Day in September 2023. Over 20 keen local volunteers with amazing support from J & S Mears Contracting and Te Hoiere/Pelorus Restoration Project planted about 500 native trees & plants on the final section of the Motuweka Havelock Community Pathway, which forms part of The Link Pathway, Te Ara Tuhono.
There was plenty of fun on the day as locals pulled on their gumboots, grabbed a spade and helped transform this part of a former sheep field, right in the heart of Havelock - between Slogan Street and Inglis Street. |
Environmental Projects
Havelock Community Association is involved in a number of environmental projects around Havelock.
A big one for us is our own 'Wattles Out - Natives In' project, for which we have received funding through Marlborough District Council's Mahi mō te Taiao / Working for Nature grant scheme. An initial grant was used in 2021 to complete a scoping report which identified the areas of problem trees around Havelock and suggested how best to deal with them. In 2023 we undertook wattle and other weed tree eradication from near the Havelock Cemetery, to help restore the beautiful bush there. Havelock Community Association are also actively involved with the Te Hoiere Project, with one of our committee members also sitting on a Te Hoiere Project steering group. This is great for communication and keeps us up to date with the many exciting activities underway. Further information is available on the project website, including newsletters which are here. |
Motuweka Havelock Community Pathway
After many years in the planning, work on this community asset got underway in 2020. This pathway connected Havelock township with the Link Pathway, which previously had only reached as far as Mahakipawa Hill and also to the existing Motuweka Pathway which runs alongside the marina and out to the marina entrance on The Mole. The route stays well away from SH6, and uses boardwalks and causeways to cross the estuary wetland.
The first part of the project was completed in 2021 after it was funded by Marlborough District Council's Small Townships Fund following the first COVID-19 Lockdown of 2020. MDC contracted The Link Pathway Trust to undertake the project along with local G R Lawrence Contractors Ltd and some eager local volunteers. The completion of the first section, from Mahakipawa Street to Havelock Cemetery was celebrated with a Community BBQ held by Havelock Community Association in April 2021. The final section of the walkway, from the cemetery to Inglis Street was completed in 2023, including a community planting event. |
The Havelock Community Association always has a lot going on. You can keep up-to-date by checking out the minutes of our recent meetings.

Pavilion Upgrade
Work to improve facilities at Havelock Pavilion got underway in 2021 with the installation of a new heat pump. This was followed in 2022 by the addition of a microwave oven in the kitchen area, the redecorating of the interior of the main room, and the replacement of the old carpet with easy-care carpet tiles.
We're not done yet though! In 2023 we undertook further upgrades of the facility with the installation of WiFi and the addition of a smart TV. The addition of new blinds has improved the overall experience. Our aim is to make Havelock Pavilion a great venue for professional workshops and small conferences, while continuing to be the perfect space for community activities and private events. |
Havelock Routes
Havelock Community Association are currently working with Marlborough District Council to create a series of walking and cycling routes in, around and through Havelock. We are working with different interest groups within our community to create themed circular routes that will appeal to people with a variety of interests. We have so many great walks and rides in Havelock and we'd love to encourage people to get out and try them.

If you have time to give to our local community, get in touch! |
Town Hall Upgrade
By holding back and combining our Marlborough District Council Repair & Maintenance Grants for the Town Hall over a few years, we were able to fund the complete redecoration of the Town Hall - interior & exterior - in 2019. Further upgrades have continued since then including the replacement of the lino in the Supper Room in 2022.
In 2023 we replaced all the curtains in the Town Hall with the generous financial and practical support of Havelock Community Theatre. Accessibility was also improved in 2023 with the addition of a new handrail and signage on the front steps. The Old Girl is certainly looking spick & span these days! |
